Essential Virtual Assistant tools

Yesterday, I finished the required number of tutorials as part of the assignment of the live VA Seminar I attended last June. I have also created this blog to be able to write about the tutorials I have done.

So, today I decided to watch the webinar, “The Elements Of An Impressive VA Blog,” again which I first saw last June 23, 2012. It was also given by Jomar Hilario. I wanted to refresh myself and check if I was able to apply the pointers Jomar taught that would make VA blogs standout.

During the webinar, Jomar showed several VA blogs and asked the attendees what they thought of  the blogs. He taught the attendees what were missing or lacking in the blogs as well as what were right or correct about them.

In the end, he gave a list of  pointers that would help in creating an impressive VA Blog which follows.

1. Remove the “Just Another WordPress Blog” shown at the beginning of any newly created WordPress blog. This is to erase the impression that one  is a beginner in the world of blogging.

2. VA blogs should have tutorials. This is to showcase the skills the particular virtual assistant has and also to impress to the client that the VA is a power user of several tools.

3. The tutorials included in the blog should be visible and clear.

4. The design of the blog should be selected with care such that it is clean and professional looking.

5. When one is in doubt as to what  design to choose from the thousands available in WordPress, Jomar suggested to compare the design to Apple’s, Flickr’s and Tumblr’s  website. These three have beautiful and professional looking websites.

6. It is important to think of the kind of impression one is giving his audience.

7. Use 2-3 colors maximum.

8. Use 2-3 fonts maximum.

9. Take care and make sure that there is white space so that the blog is easy on the eyes of the reader.

10. No cluttering.

11. Make sure that it has the email catcher gadget.

12. Your image should be smiling.

I will now review the blogs I have done and improve them since I discovered a few things I did not do after watching the webinar again. I hope that when my assignment is checked the feedback would be, you did it right!

Learning is the beginning of wealth. Learning is the beginning of health. Learning is the beginning of spirituality. Searching and learning is where the miracle process all begins.

I joined Jomar Hilario’s Mastery Group facebook page a few months ago because I wanted to explore the opportunity of becoming a virtual assistant. Working from home is something totally new to me but I was very interested to learn a lot about it  because of the obvious benefits.  Jomar Hilario is an online marketer and virtual assistant trainor.

One day, when I was going through my facebook account, I saw Jomar’s post about a webinar he is conducting. The webinar’s title was, “Make Facebook Earn For You Large.” It was held last April 25, 2012.

The title immediately caught my attention. I never thought that I can earn money while using facebook. I only use facebook  to connect with my friends and relatives, looking at what’s going on in their lives.

Since I love to learn and attending this webinar would teach me how to apply everything in it to be able to create at least two different sources of income, I decided to sign up. It was the very first webinar I attended and it was time well spent.

The following are what I learned from the webinar:

1. I played my very first Facebook contest. I never played any contest before in Facebook since I was wary of doing so. I did not trust any of the contests posted in it. In my mind, there are always the questions, “Are these contests for real? Are they really going to give the prizes they promised?”

Anyway, it was fun playing the Facebook contest Jomar selected for the attendees to play.

2. I learned what makes a Facebook contest legal. Surprisingly, not all facebook contests are legal. Facebook contests are legal only when they have an APP.

3. I learned how to make a legal Facebook contest. Jomar showed us how to make one by using Shortstack. He made it easy by introducing Orange. “Orange is your friend,” he said.

Admittedly,  I was not able to immediately create a Facebook contest the first time that I tried it on my own. But, I saw several of the attendees posting the contests they have made on Jomar’s page so, I was inspired to try and try until I succeed. I thought, if they can do it, so can I. And succeed I did. You can actually see the tutorial I made on how to make Facebook contests using Shortstack in this blog under Tutorials.

Now, how do I apply my learnings to create two new sources of income?

1. Email 100 companies who are running Facebook contests without an APP and offer my services for a fee to create  legal contests for them. They need to run legal contests because if Facebook finds out that they are running contests without APPS,  their page will be deleted and their companies will be banned.

2. Include creating Facebook contests as a skill in my online resume as virtual assistant.

Indeed, searching and learning is where the miracle process all begins. Applying what I learned from the webinar will start the miracle process of me earning more and of a greater possibility of  landing a good paying  job online.

Hootsuite is a tool created in 2008 by Ryan Holmes. He had a specific need at that time to effectively manage  his multiple social media marketing networks.  He searched for a tool with features that would answer all his needs but, having found none, he decided to develop one with his team.

You can bring together all your social media accounts, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, in Hootsuite and social media marketing becomes a breeze for you. You are able to save precious time by getting away from logging in and out of your social media sites all day. Through Hootsuite,  you can see all your social media accounts in one screen. You can send , receive and schedule messages on one or multiple social streams.

Dropbox is a file hosting service founded by Drew Houston.  Drew thought of the idea of Dropbox when he kept on forgetting his USB flash drive when he was still a student.

From Soluto, Dropbox is like a regular folder on your computer where you can keep stuff, but has a magical twist – every file that you put in your Dropbox is automatically backed up to the cloud to keep it completely safe and secure.

Putting files in Dropbox has the following benefits:

1. Your files will be backed up and kept safe.

2. You’ll be able to access them from any computer or smartphone.

3. You can easily share stuff with other people.

Dropbox has a simple design and easy to use. Click on below tutorial to learn how to use this brilliant idea which was conceived because of a constant irritant in someone’s life, always forgetting his flashdrive.

What is Jing?  Jing is a free sotfware  from the makers of Snagit and Camtasia Studio, Techsmith. It is simple to use  and the coolest thing about it is it allows you to add visuals to your online conversations. Instead of typing at people, show them what you are talking about!

This is a very helpful tool for marketers, educators, students and everybody who believe visuals speak more than words. It actually becomes an indispensable tool when one gets the hang of using it.

In the tutorial that I have prepared, you will learn how to install Jing, capture a screenshot,  and share the screenshot through screencast.com.

Imagine a scenario where you are having an online conversation with your friend. You are meeting for lunch and your friend asks about the address of the restaurant.  If you have Jing installed in your computer, you can quickly capture a screenshot of the address of  the restaurant or  capture a screenshot of the restaurant’s map and paste this to your actual conversation. To learn more about this, please click on the tutorial below.

A 5 minute video is also possible to prepare with Jing but this is not covered in this tutorial.
